Elizabeth Person – Artist Profile

We are always on the lookout for interesting stories and ways to tell them. Recently we worked with local artist, Elizabeth Person to tell the story of how she creates incredible watercolor illustrations.

From our initial meeting over coffee, we knew this was a story worth telling and that it had to be told in her own words. Becoming a successful solo artist is no easy feat. It means you have to spend a tremendous amount of time on your craft and learn from your mistakes as you go along.

We met Elizabeth over coffee and got to know her better while also discussing how her story might look visually. It is important in these early meetings to get a sense of what everyone’s interests might be in such a project and to ensure that these interests follow a similar path to an overall common creative goal.

A few weeks later we met Elizabeth at her studio in Everett to do the filming and the interview. She was a bit nervous at first but soon eased into her comfort zone as she explained her research process, and showed us through her sketches and into finished work.

Shooting with the C200 in RAW allowed us to ensure we were capturing the detail of her work and we were able to easily flow around her without interruption or having to make major adjustments to lighting, etc.

The afternoon flew by and we felt fortunate to be able to capture so much incredible footage with her. Soon we had all of the content we needed and headed off to start the edit.

Sorting through the footage was painful, only in that there was always more great material we wanted to put into the edit, but knowing that less is more, we went through and widdled it down to what we felt were the best takes for each section.

The edit was done in Final Cut Pro and used Film Convert to give a cinematic polish to the final piece.

We were thrilled to have such positive feedback from Elizabeth when she saw her video and also to hear about the full-on engagement she received when she started using it on her social media.  As she has many international clients, this video was a great way for them to get to know her more closely.
